There are many criteria to selecting the school that is worthy of the investment, and this is not an exhaustive list.

 

1) Golfing style 

As with any topic or subject matter to learn, golf can be played in many styles. Some play conservatively, others, like me, more aggressively. But ultimately you have to choose school or instructor that matches you.

 

Your style, your personality, your skills.

 

2) Problem areas  

I have trouble with slicing. I find that my shots slice to the right Consistently. Do not forget to add in travel, lodging, and food costs,  if you are price sensitive then, by all means. Many times these “incidentals” can double overall cost.

 

5)  Proximity 

What is your traveling distance? Is the schedule tight so slipping off within 100 miles for a half day lesson is all you can squeeze. When these offer last-minute specials you can jump on those quickly, One plus of keeping tabs on those schools “in your own backyard” is.

 

6) Length of training 

Like any good consultant would answer, it depends. It depend on whether you are looking for a long weekend, a day seminar, or wrapping vacation around the training. This is an important factor in choosing a school so wisely compare.

Is Buying Used Golf Clubs Really a Good Idea?

When you find that a top quality Callaway driver costs ,500 new and less than 0 used, the thought of buying used golf clubs has to come to mind. That can be a great move, but make sure you consider a few of these simple guidelines before you decide you’re about to get a great deal.

Before you plunk down your cash, make sure that what looks like a good deal really is one. Compare the price of a new club of the same brand and model. A new Ping putter may run up to $100 or more. A used one that costs can definitely be a good deal, but only if the quality is still there.

When examing the club, look for obvious problems, such as worn grips.

Cracks or splits in the rubber or leather are not just a sign of age. Grips can be replaced. But they also suggest less than stellar manufacturing or poor care. A club left out in the rain may have rust spots, but those could have been cleaned off before being offered for sale.

The effects of weather on a grip are not so easy to hide and few sellers will want to spend the money to replace one when they’re getting rid of the club. On the other hand some might, knowing that a few dollars invested can fool you. Take Caution. To re-grip your club, you may have to spend anywhere from a few dollars up to , some times more. Even if you’re willing to spend the extra money right away, you’re buying a club that is not in great shape. Reconsider.

Closely examine the clubface of the used club you are considering purchasing.

Almost all used clubs will have some wear, but if the sweetspot shows a shiny area, indicating excessive wear you might want to give it a pass. A clubface like that will cause your shots to be less accurate, which may be the reason the seller is offering them in the first place.

The grooves should have well defined edges. They are there for a purpose. If you spy some dents in the surface, you should move on to the next one. Those can cause your flight angle to be way off.

Check the shafts, too.

Graphite shafts are lighter weight than steel, but they are slightly less durable. They’ll dent easier. Make sure the shaft is still perfectly round. Dents, grooves and other signs of club abuse may throw off your swing because they affect flexibility and torque. The effect is subtle, but real. Test the shaft by trying to gently twist the head and grip in opposite directions. This could be very difficult. Therefore the shaft is weak.

Steel shafts can get damaged, too. Even in the absence of dents, a steel shaft can get bent. That can happen from a missed swing, or an angry golfer who decided to whack the club into the ground or a tree. Any slight deviation may suggest that a club may have been bent. Straightening a golf club back to its original shape takes specialized equipment. If they did try to straighten the club, it can still weaken it and affect the flexibility and the balance. Move on.

Did you know that Carnival Cruise Lines offers one of the best golf vacation package for Golf Cruise Vacations?  I just returned from a trip to the Bahamas on the Carnival Sensation.My wifes ideas of a family vacation is spending all your time with the family and the trip was planned by her so you can bet that me Golfing was the last thing on her mind. Even if she thought about it, she was thinking about how she could keep me away from the Golf Attractions.Right there on the ship just waiting for me to tee up was a Golf Course. As we set out on our Bahamas Cruise Vacation I didn’t do any research about the vacation and I had no clue what was available!  Yes, the ship has a real Golf Course right on the top floor.

During our visit to the Atlantis Resort at Paradise Island, I found out my vacation could have included some a great day of Golf.I was having a great time with my family So, don’t get me wrong, I would not trade this quality time for anything.But, I would have loved to get in just a couple rounds of Golf.At The Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island there were some great Golfing options and my wife form some odd reason left golfing out of her plans for out family vacation. What’s wrong with a little time away from the family enjoying a round of Golf.I was talking to another dad on the beach and I found out that I was missing out on some great golf on the island. I also found out that I was missing out on some great golf on the ship.  The Carnival Sensation from port Canaveral has its own little Golf course on board and I had no clue.

I knew I would not be able to break away for golf there on the Island but I had in my mind that I would get my chance at Golf on the Sensation.  After returning to the ship, I met up with the Cruise director and she gave me all of the details of where this Golf Course was located and what I needed to do to get in the game.  At that time I had no clue how hard it would be to break away to enjoy one little round.  There were 2 days left on my trip and every time I had a chance I made my way toward to Lido Deck to try to get in a round or two.  Every time I made a break for it, I ran into my wife or one of my children and for the remainder of the trip I had no luck at breaking away for my round of Golf.

I am telling this story to help other husbands and dads in advance of their Cruise.  If you are going to travel, you want to do your homework.  Find out if the Cruise Line offers any Golf Vacation Packages.  Get this information before you leave and try to convience your wife to let you break away for a couple of rounds.

I sat down to write this as soon as I returned from the trip just to help others avoid the same experience that I had on my vacation.
